The spirit of WAD
WAD is the acronym for " Weija Agricultural Development "
The WAD philosophy has been forged over time.
We believe in the potential of small-scale farmers and are working to make the most of it. We encourage our partners to become more self-sufficient and to develop their villages in their own way.
The organisation began in 2000 with the aim of helping to combat poverty in rural agrarian communities in Ghana.
The founders of WAD (Patrick Deegbe, an agricultural engineer, and Christiane Deegbe, a nurse) got to know the market-gardening village of Tubaman-Weija during a project carried out in 1995. They were able to identify major logistical problems. They then exported agricultural equipment to make it available to the Weija village cooperative. A company was set up and employees hired to manage the equipment, as well as an experimental farm.
WAD's activities have now been extended to the Ekumfi region for pineapple, Somanya for mango, and Kwanyako and Krodua for papaya and coconut.
The aim is to promote small farmers' products on the Swiss market.
